He will grow to become like Chiron, tutor to Achilles, Hercules, and many other Greek heroes. Chiron was also a great healer, but he was killed by a poisoned arrow and he became the constellation of Sagittarius, the astrological sign of the philosophic mind. In the White Light Tarot image, the Page of Disks is the young Chiron, and we find him in the forest playing with a ball of energy. He has mastery of infinite source already, but being neither man nor beast he is fickle and sometimes forgets about his skills. He is not one to concentrate to get things done, although he processes the power to do so, he hasn't the desire. He is the consummate play mate at this young age, so do not rely on him. He will inspire and empower you to find your own way, but he will not sustain interest in solving any particular problems except for the challenge. Recognize him for what he is, and do not try to mold him into something he can never be, for he is not a whole man nor will he ever become a complete man, he is half beast, and will always be wild, and in a state of becoming. The Page of Disks is most comfortable in the shade of the cool green forest of earthly resources. Early naturalists observed the bees dance for communication, collective hive behavior and humming, so in myth bees became an emblem of poetry, dance, song, and for some observers like Plato, a metaphor for political society. Bees are a very rich symbol, but for the Ten of Disks we'll concentrate on bees as a symbol of immortality and transformation. Bees symbolize immortality possibly because we observed that without honeybees, we wouldn't live for long. We are reliant on bees pollinating at least 35 percent of the plant food we eat. There is evidence of hunter gatherers tribes collecting orange blossom honey in Valencia Spain 15000 years ago. Cave paintings found in the region depict gathering honey in buckets, and an additional reason for bees being a symbol of immortality could be the honey. Bees in myth, relayed messages to and from the afterlife and the gods, and the color and translucence of honey is reminiscent of gold, so honey is associated with wealth as well as longevity, and healing. Honey is naturally antiseptic, and has amazing healing properties, it fights microbial fungi and bacteria, and it never goes bad. Honey was found in sealed jars in Tutankhamon's a.k.a. King Tut's 3,300-year-old tomb by Howard Carter in 1922. When the jars were opened, the honey was crystallized but not spoiled, and in 2007 more jars were discovered, still well preserved, even after 100 years of tourism, amazingly. The figurative use of bees is similar in settings as diverse as South America, India, Egypt, China, Greece and Europe. In many cultural rites honey, mead, beeswax and bees played a role in rituals of transformation. In White Light Tarot's version of the Ten of Disks we observe the delight of the bee on large globe grapes. The grapes represent a feast of forbidden fruit or spiritual knowledge not usually available to a mortal. Grapes if fermented will yield wine and for the Muslim Mystics like the Sufi poets red wine is "the drink of divine love". Red wine is also a metaphor for blood in some religious rites, and like its cousin honey mead when imbibed it confers a new form of understanding upon the initiate and a new way of expressing sexual and poetic voice. The crux of the meaning of the Ten of Disks is that of a final transformation and delight in a treasured moment. That which was terrestrial changes back into the spirit. The transition is one of experience transmigrating into true wealth - the wealth of spirit. When you get the Ten of Disks it means you have achieved success and you have been able to transmute some form of spiritual energy (idea) into full fledged physical reality. The honeybee takes delight in using the grape's sweet juice to make her honey. Delight in your own ability to transformation with her.

A cherry tree laden with fruit on a city block rises high above the fray. The tree demonstrates that beauty can prevail even in stressful circumstances. Trees in the city are not like trees in the forest. City trees are stressed out, not like their laid back country cousins. Often gardeners have to help these non-native specimens with soil supplements, spraying and constant up-keep because the city is stressful for plants just as it is for humans and animals. Pollution, poor soil quality, lack of water and car exhaust fumes can wear a tree down, but still despite it all they bloom beautifully. In the Eight of Disks we are shown a rather abstract version of the concept of fruition, still the point is that of 'the final yield,' e.g. you have risen above the ruckus and created something beautiful. What you have been trying to grow has finally come to harvest. Through great effort, trials and tribulations you've been able to culture something important. The sword of the Japanese Samurai is decorated with cherries and cherry blossoms to symbolize the growth of the invisible inner life. Cherries are considered a symbol of good luck in Japan. Japanese cherry blossoms come forth at spring equinox, sometimes when there is still snow, and the first fruit is ready by midsummer. In Japanese folklore, the wealth of the blossoms on the cherry was considered a foreshadowing of the health of the final harvest in the fall, and of the community at large. The Seven of Disks shows an abstract interpretation of the proverbial is-the-jar-full paradox. A teacher asks a student whether a jar is full after placing small rocks in it up to the brim. The student replies that the jar is full. The teacher then adds smaller pebbles, shakes the jar, so that the pebbles fall between the cracks and asks again. The student says this time it is really full, but the teacher then adds sand which fills the jar even more. The point of the exercise is to demonstrate that we limit ourselves by definition. If we can expand our world view to include that which is unseen, or unknown, or put another way, if we can learn to live with uncertainty then we don't limit our capacity or capabilities. We are capable of more in some way. We can endeavor to be more giving, more thoughtful and more courageous. Allan Watts write in the Wisdom of Insecurity: The timid mind shuts this window with a bang, and is silent and thoughtless about what it does not know in order to chatter the more about what it thinks it knows. It fills up the uncharted spaces with mere repetition of what has already been explored. [pp. 150] Our minds are limited only by the strictures that we place upon them. Endeavor to undo what has been done to create the limitations that you are experiencing. Expand your horizons by seeing the world in a new and expanded way. Expand your lungs, expand your mind, expand and give into no limitations.

Evidence of the game of marbles has been found in Egypt, Greece, China and the Americas, and dates back 3000 years. In the classic game, your job is to knock your opponent's marbles out of the circle with your "knuckler." The knuckler disperses the energy to the other marbles, sending any number of marbles to different strategic positions and out of the circle. Like Piaget's demonstration of the competitive and cooperative nature of stylistic learning, the marbles will in essence take a leader who will be the strike point. The strike point, or knuckler, is the prime mover who moves the energy through the group changing the dynamic of the crowd. You are the knuckler. Your next move is very important and can make or break the game. Create within your circle of friends or associates the momentum necessary to get things done. Set your strategy, and make your move. It is your time to strike. The idea of patronage and karma (good deeds) is also associated with the Six of Disks, as is generosity. If you're not the one who is destined to strike and spread good fortune, then someone near you will offer their generosity towards you. They feel they owe you that much. But sometimes we get caught in a trap of identifying ourselves with what we do for a living or what we believe or our associates with the 'keeping-up-with-the-Jones' mentality. When that happens, we are no longer truly reacting as ourselves, we are reacting as the image of ourselves. When you get the Five of Disks, you may feel insecure for some reason, or impoverished in some measure energetically, but this is temporary. Remember that the nature of who you are and what you do is fleeting. Stay aware of your feelings, be present and communicate them as well as you can, every chance you get. Fours are about stability and order, and the Four of Disks is especially about material wealth. Hording your energies will not help you achieve further abundance. Hording only leads to stagnation. The equal exchange of energy is what is required, financial as well as emotional and spiritual. Frugality and conservation are not the enemy, it is the feeling that we lack something. The thought process in the 'there is never enough ______' to go around (fill in the blank with love, time, money, friends, whatever) feeling that we need to heal. If you feel neglected in some way, or lacking in love, approval or self-worth then you may need to recharge your batteries and give to yourself for a little break. When you get the Four of Disks it indicates that you have pushed yourself to the point of exhaustion and that you are becoming miserly with your time, energy and monies. Take time to reflect on your feelings about abundance. Being protective is okay, but if getting the Four of Disks indicates that you have been giving too much, pull back a bit for your health. After determining why you are drained, you can begin to recoup any losses you may have incurred. It may require that you to slow down and reorganize your thinking. In both the Eastern Tantric and Western Hermetic alchemical traditions three is the perfect number. Paracelsus referred to this trinity as the Tria Prima or the Three Primes elements, but the word elements acts as a stand in for principles as well as substances. As principles Mercury supplies connectivity, it's the go between, Sulfur acts as the binder, it keeps things together long enough for Salt to act as the solidifying agent. As a person transforms Mercury represents the spirit, Sulfur is the passion or emotional force and Salt is the body. When you get the Three of Disks you are working on a transformation. Or your work life is ramping up in some way, and may include others in the process. Use the concept of the three prime elements to heighten and hasten the development. Environmental stresses, pathogens, pesticides and parasites are all being investigated as causes as well as genetically modified food crops like corn and soy. This is a worldwide message from the bees that something is wrong and something has got to change. When you get the Ten of Disks reversed, you are becoming malformed in some manner. That said, most science was considered magic, heresy or pseudoscience, at one point or another, so believe in yourself and influence your world by focusing on what you want and what you can influence, rather than on what you don't want or can't do anything about. For example worrying about polar bears and global warming isn't going to help the bears, but turning off the lights when you leave the room will have an impact on how much energy you consume, which in a small way, will help the bears, so affect change with constructive action.
